My name is Robyn Waayers, and I've lived in California since 1977 after moving here from the east coast. I have a Master's Degree in Biology, with an emphasis in Ecology from San Diego State University, and have been teaching biology at several San Diego County colleges since the mid-1990s. I am not formally trained as an entomologist (I did my graduate work on territoriality in a local songbird), but became fascinated with the Coleoptera after teaching zoology for several years. Many thanks to the professionals, and other serious amateurs like myself, who have helped with identification of beetles for this site!

I have lived in the Cuyamaca Mountains since November of 2005. Our home is in the southern region of the town of Julian, in a community called Cuyamaca Woods. It is located at 4200 feet in elevation and has a rich mixture of oaks and pines, with scattered chaparral here and there (mostly dominated by manzanita). This location is excellent for making trips to other southern California areas, such as the coast and foothills to the west, and the Anza Borrego Desert to the east, as well as some very rich and unique habitats in Imperial County, to the east of San Diego County.
